Weather you love vintage, traditional or obscure, Etsy is great resource to find that perfect peice for your home. Anything from pillows to actual furniture can be found. I love looking at the furniture, I am a huge fan of the obsure and weird, although not many people know that about me. Some of these are spendy but pretty to look at! Here are some really great items from Etsy.
As usual when I am at lunch at my day job, I pop over to Etsy to not only look at my shop but study the treasury that has made it to the front. I try to assertain what the curators plan was while they put that particular treasury together. Today, unlike any other day, a beautiful treasury sits before me, however I actually recognize the curators name Marieken Hoefnagel. Who could forget a beautiful name like Marieken! She’s the owner of invisiblecrown on Etsy and her blog is here. Check out her beautiful shop and wonderful blog! Click here to see the treasury!
Here are a few of the items she has in that treasury that I adore!
This great shop features rustic wedding guest books and wood albums. She also offers wood pencil holders, & journals.
You can also find pendants, brooches, original works of art, bookmarks, greeting cards and more.
This shop has various types of wedding and home decor including small boxes, knobs, coasters and more.
So congratulations Marieken for getting your treasury on page 1!!!
In an effort to be more active on my blog here are some items I found on Etsy that really caught my eye!
Sells handmade ceramics such as bowls, cups, teapots, buttons and beads and more from Turnin, Italy. Click on the picture or the link to visit this shop.
This shop has eco friendly cool home decor like these tiny succulent planters! Really these are adorable from Ferrara, Italy. Click on the picture or the link to visit this shop.
After a lot of research I decided (well my husband got me for Christmas rather) a Cricut Expression 2. I have had a few bumps but after running the sync software and updating the system then doing a factory reset I think it is good to go! I am pretty excited about this machine as it will open up so many more possibilities in my shop like paper banners for parties and such!
I have to say I love Etsy and all that it stands for and I am not just saying that because I happen to own a shop! It truly is this unique eclectic group of people who either appreciate handmade goods, vintage or both! Growing up I haven’t always appreciated the handmade clothes my Mom would make. My most vivid memory was the homecoming dress she made (since the store bought dresses were too pricey). On the day of homecoming I remember watching her safety pin the remaining pieces together since she did not have enough time to finish it. I remember being so paranoid that a safety pin would come undone and stab me! This was the last handmade made item I owned for quite some time!
Since joining Etsy’s community almost a year ago, with my handmade card shop (I know go figure!), I have found a new appreciation for handcrafted items including clothes! Over the last year I have discovered that I really do love handmade items! I started to buy from the other shops on Etsy and discovered their craftsmanship and quality surpassed my expectation.
I have also decided that I will buy as many birthday presents and Christmas presents from Etsy as I can. I may pay a bit more and of course will have to pay for shipping but what I am getting is superior to store-bought-probably-made-in-a-sweatshop items. How many times have you bought some cheap item from the store just to have it fall apart? I am sure this happens on Etsy as well but I have yet to encounter it. As a shop owner I wish more of us would buy into the system we are trying to make money in. It really only makes sense. I doubt every shop makes their own greeting cards and I am sure a good portion of Etsy sellers buy greeting cards from the grocery store when they shop (I used to!). Why not plan a head a bit and buy from a fellow Etsian? I am not suggesting my store (although I would never stop you! :), I am talking any shop. If we bought into our system it would help Etsy’s economy grow which in turn will only help us and our shops.
Last weekend I finally found the time to sit down and make up some more paper beads. I made 6 batches of 25 so now I have a bit of selection in my Etsy shop Vandicrafts. Check out how well these turned out!
When I was blog surfing recently, I came across a blog called Crafting Creatures and was blown away at the work that must have gone into this gorgeous card (tip: click on Crafting Creatures to see it). After staring at it for a long while and watching a few you tube videos (naturally I didn’t want to do it wrong!), I decided to incorporate this technique in my cards. I probably should also mention that I have been exploring exploding box cards which look like presents and are beautiful and fun to make! I created this card for a card challenge at Crafty Cardmakers which is another fabulous site I found surfing for blogs to read so check them out!
